Small Business
The ACT Greens believe:
1. small business makes an important contribution to the economy and society of the ACT
2. the ACT Government must support the small business sector and help it to grow
3. small business should be supported to meet social and ecological best practice
4. small business must be given the opportunity to participate in decision-making affecting the ACT economy.
The ACT Greens want:
1. a resilient, dynamic and sustainable ACT small business sector
2. simplification of ACT Government charges, regulations and compliance costs as they apply to small business
3. small businesses to become more viable and competitive in the ACT economy
4. a social and ecological responsibility charter for business, including coverage of the small business sector
5. the ACT Government to provide an economic environment conducive to a flourishing small business sector.
The ACT Greens support:
1. requiring the ACT Government to pay invoices from small businesses within 28 business days, with financial penalties for non-compliance
2. requiring pre-approval cost–benefit analyses of large new developments to include a small business impact statement
3. promoting the position of small business in tenancy agreements
4. assisting the small business sector to utilise new technologies and business methods, such as e-commerce
5. establishing an ACT network of small business advisers to assist in the creation, development and ongoing operation of small businesses
6. monitoring and responding to the need for small business incubators
7. developing a Youth Enterprise Strategy to support young entrepreneurs
8. establishing a Superannuation Clearing House to help small businesses manage their superannuation payments.
