The Commissioner for the Environment’s report on the state of Lake Burley Griffin’s watercourses and catchments was released last week. A Greens motion in March 2011 called for an inquiry to identify urban activities as the most significant source of the lake's problems.
Greens bill to stop public funds investing in arms, tobacco
ACT Greens Leader, Meredith Hunter, has presented a bill to better manage the way we invest public money and better reflect community values.
This issue was the subject of a public accounts committee inquiry and the Bill tabled today responds to the committee report and submissions received during that inquiry.

The ACT Greens have successfully amended the Commissioner for the Environment Act, to reflect the Commissioner’s expanded responsibility for sustainability issues and to limit delays in publicly releasing the Commissioners’ reports.
Increased public notification for development proposals
The Assembly has passed amendments to increase public notification for draft variations to the Territory Plan, deconcessionalisation and new houses in older suburbs.
These amendments were based on the Planning and Development (Public Notification) Amendment Bill introduced by the Greens to the Assembly in March.
Greens oppose Labor and Liberal public service cuts
ACT Greens Leader, Meredith Hunter, says the Greens remain the only party that opposes slashing the public service. Ms Hunter has also commended Senator Christine Milne for successfully pushing dental reform and protecting cultural institutions.
